At least 11 people have died following Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, marking a severe escalation in hostilities despite a ceasefire agreement reached in June.

The Lebanese government reported that seven civilians, including three children and two women, were killed in a strike on a house near Ansar in the Nabatieh district early Saturday morning. Later, four more people died and five were injured in additional strikes on Deir al-Zahrani, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Israel's military stated the operations targeted "Hezbollah terror infrastructure" in retaliation for a prior attack on Israeli soldiers. The initial strike in Ansar occurred around 4:30 a.m. local time in an area housing displaced families, with footage showing thick smoke and sirens sounding through the village.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, emphasizing that the victims were civilians and urging Israel to halt the escalation. "The security and right to life of our people are non-negotiable," he asserted.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) indicated the trigger for the Ansar strike was an incident on the Ali al-Taher Ridge, a strategic point in southeastern Lebanon frequently contested during the conflict. Additional strikes near the ridge and in border towns like Bint Jbeil reportedly destroyed homes and involved heavy machine gun fire.
