Eleven Accused in Ksh1.57 Billion IFAD PROFIT Case Granted Bail

The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court has granted bail to 11 individuals facing charges related to the misappropriation of Ksh1.57 billion under the IFAD-funded Rural Outreach of Financial Innovation and Technology (PROFIT) programme.

Charges and Accused

The accused include senior Treasury officials and business owners, charged with offences such as abuse of office under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act. Among them is John Ngure Kabutha, the programme coordinator for PROFIT from 2019 to 2022, accused of unlawfully conferring benefits totaling over Ksh114 million to Gladys Juliet Oroni through improper payments.

Gladys Juliet Oroni faces charges of unlawful acquisition of public property and money laundering. Other suspects include Nemwel Moturi Motanya, John Maina Muriithi, Brian Kiprop Chepkarat, Ian Kwemoi Chepkarat, and corporate entities O2O Investments Limited and Vidi Vici Investment Limited, among others.

Bail Terms

  • John Ngure Kabutha was released on a Ksh10 million bond or Ksh5 million cash bail with one surety.
  • Nemwel Moturi Motanya and John Maina Muriithi each received a Ksh5 million bond or Ksh2 million cash bail.
  • Gladys Juliet Oroni was granted a Ksh20 million bond or Ksh10 million cash bail with one surety.
  • Brian Kiprop Chepkarat and Ian Kwemoi Chepkarat were each released on a Ksh10 million bond or Ksh5 million cash bail.
  • O2O Investments Limited, Vidi Vici Investment Limited, and Jimmy Carter Odoyo Osodo received lower bonds, with Osodo’s bond set at Ksh1 million or Ksh300,000 cash bail.
  • Other accused persons were granted bonds ranging from Ksh5 million to lower amounts with corresponding cash bail options.

All accused pleaded not guilty during the hearing presided over by Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi. The case is set for mention on September 2, 2026.
