Senator Edwin Sifuna, a former student of Musingu High School in Kakamega County, has shared candid insights into his academic journey during his time at the institution. Despite facing difficulties in subjects like Mathematics and Chemistry, Sifuna found strength in English and other arts-related courses.

Academic Struggles and Strengths

Enrolled at Musingu High from 1996 to 1999, Sifuna struggled notably in Mathematics, frequently scoring E grades, with a highest mark of C at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams. Chemistry was dropped early after he scored just 16% in Form 2. In contrast, he excelled in lighter subjects such as English, Kiswahili, and Geography, which eventually guided his choice of pursuing law at university.

A Return to His Alma Mater

In June 2025, Sifuna revisited Musingu High to address the graduating Class of 2025, marking 26 years since he completed his studies. He described the experience as profoundly moving, emphasizing that his journey demonstrates how early academic challenges do not limit future success.

The school, known for its Quaker heritage and located along the Kakamega-Kisumu Highway, has a rich history of excellence beyond academics. Its sports teams, including the football Scorpions, have recently regained national prominence, finishing as runners-up in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association championships in 2024 and 2025.
