Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has revealed that he holds a confidential dossier detailing late-night meetings he allegedly had with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua prior to the latter's impeachment.
Speaking at a public event in Embu County, Kindiki claimed that while serving as Cabinet Secretary for Interior, he made several attempts to assist Gachagua avoid removal from office through private consultations.
"Gachagua, I came to visit you many nights when I was Interior CS," Kindiki said, without disclosing the exact content of their conversations. He warned that continued attacks from Gachagua could prompt him to make these discussions public.
Kindiki also criticized Gachagua's ongoing criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing the former Deputy President of looking down on him and cautioning against such behavior.
He linked Gachagua's conduct to his impeachment, stating, "And it is that character of yours that got you removed from office, and I do not want to be like you." Kindiki further clarified his use of the term "brother" when addressing Gachagua, emphasizing it was not out of fear or affection.
Gachagua was impeached in October 2024 following approval by both the National Assembly and Senate. Kindiki succeeded him as Deputy President after the Supreme Court cleared his appointment.
Since leaving office, Gachagua has positioned himself as a vocal critic of the Ruto administration, accusing it of failing to fulfill promises to Kenyans.
Kindiki's revelation of a dossier on their private meetings may escalate tensions between the two politicians as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election. However, the Deputy President refrained from revealing specific details of the alleged discussions.
