Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has publicly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of arrogance and disrespect. The remarks were made during the Mt Kenya East Elders Solemn Assembly held on August 15, 2026, in Embu County.
Addressing elders from Njuri Ncheke, Kiama Kia Muembu, and the Mwea Council of Elders, Kindiki responded to Gachagua’s recent demand that he cease referring to him as "brother." Kindiki insisted that the term is his choice, rooted in cultural ties rather than personal affection or political alliance.
"I do not call you brother because I like you or fear you, but because our communities – the Gikuyu, Meru, Embu, and Mbeere – are one. You are my brother by blood, not by choice," Kindiki stated.
He further revealed that despite efforts to maintain a cordial relationship, Gachagua's attitude has made it difficult. Kindiki noted, "I have tried to love you, but you carry too much arrogance and disrespect, even towards senior leaders and those close to you." He warned that such conduct would eventually bring embarrassment.
The exchange follows comments by Gachagua during a church service in Kiambu County on August 9, where he questioned Kindiki’s respect for him after leaving office and rejected the use of "brother" to describe their relationship.
