Authorities in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, have launched investigations following the discovery of a decomposed female body inside a 75-foot well located in Inorero Village, Karani Sub-location.
The grim find occurred on Tuesday morning when a local resident went to draw water from the well. The man noticed his bucket was stuck and, upon shining a torch into the well, saw a body at the bottom. He alerted his family members before notifying police.
Police, assisted by the Kiambu County fire and rescue team, retrieved the body, which was then documented and photographed at the scene. The deceased is an unidentified woman estimated to be around 30 years old, wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans, and found without shoes.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, complicating immediate identification. Neighbors present at the site reported not recognizing the woman.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that the woman was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the well. The remains were transferred to Thika Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause and circumstances of death.
Police have appealed to the public to provide any information on missing persons fitting the description to aid identification.

Separately, police in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, are probing the death of a 35-year-old man whose body was found floating in a 30-foot abandoned borehole at Kotieno Village, Ramula Sub-location.
The deceased, identified as Dison Juma Anyango, was reported missing after leaving his home in Kiliti Village on August 8 to visit a relative. His body showed no visible injuries and was moved to Othoo Morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.
