The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in the fatal shooting of 61-year-old businessman Nathan Masai Wasama in Cheptais, Bungoma County.
Wasama was killed on the night of August 8, 2026, at his shop located in Tuikut Trading Centre, Sasur Location. Witnesses reported that four men on two motorcycles arrived at the scene, with one passenger dismounting and opening fire before fleeing.
A woman was also hit during the attack and is currently hospitalised in stable condition.
Suspects Arrested and Weapons Seized
Initial investigations led to the arrest of Oscar Koech Sakong. Following a search operation on August 11 at a residence in Marigo Village, Cheptais Location, detectives detained two more suspects, Wycliffe Chesubei Ngeiwa (aka Chota) and Geoffrey Makwere Masai.
The raid uncovered various weapons and items including:
- A military-style smoke jacket
- A stun grenade
- Three axes
- A crowbar
- Five pangas (folding and regular)
- Two knives
- Five arrows
- Three motorcycles
- Several mobile phones and an iPod
Ngeiwa and Masai are currently held in custody as authorities seek custodial orders to continue interrogations.

The DCI confirmed the search for additional suspects is ongoing as they work to establish the motive and full network behind the murder.
