On August 21, 2026, at around 6:30 pm, a passenger train collided with a Githurai 45 SACCO bus at a railway crossing in Githurai, Nairobi. CCTV footage of the incident has since circulated widely, revealing the dramatic impact.
The train, operating as number 9306 on its scheduled route between Nairobi Central Station and Ruiru, struck the bus on the driver's side as the vehicle attempted to cross the tracks. The bus was traveling from Nairobi's Central Business District towards Githurai but had not fully cleared the railway line when the collision occurred.
The force of the impact pushed the bus along the tracks, dragging a nearby parked vehicle and causing damage to an adjacent structure. Dust and smoke briefly rose from the scene, prompting bystanders to scatter.
Despite the severity of the crash and visible destruction to vehicles and surrounding property, initial reports confirmed that there were no fatalities or life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was seen exiting the damaged vehicle shortly after the collision, providing some relief to those gathered.
