Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has announced his intention to run for Nairobi governor in the 2027 elections, aiming to serve a single term before seeking the presidency in 2032.
Speaking on Radio Jambo, Babu outlined a political roadmap he formulated during his time at the University of Nairobi. He noted that he expected to complete two terms as MP from 2017 and 2022, then transition to the governor's office for one term starting 2027, before pursuing the highest office in 2032.
He advocated for a political culture where leaders commit to serving only one term in elective positions. This approach, he argued, would encourage focus on service delivery rather than re-election campaigns, and facilitate unity among leaders to back a common presidential candidate.
Babu stated: “Mimi mwenyewe nitaenda rais 2032. 2027 nimewachana nayo,” signaling he will not contest the presidency in 2027.

Defending his tenure, Babu highlighted infrastructural developments in his constituency, including road projects such as Kigwada Road linking to Kayole, Shooters-Gesora Junction Road, Alinga Road, St Michael's Road in Choka, and others connecting schools in Mihango Ward.
He also emphasized his legislative contributions and challenged fellow leaders to be transparent about their achievements in lawmaking.
On Allegations and Community Support
Babu dismissed corruption allegations, stating no audit report has implicated him in misappropriation of public funds during his time as MP. He also pointed to his bursary program as evidence of his commitment to supporting constituents.
Using the biblical parable of the talents, Babu urged that public officials be evaluated on how effectively they utilize resources entrusted to them for the benefit of citizens.
