Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has acknowledged the impressive performance of Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata but emphasized that Nairobi’s unique challenges call for a distinct approach if he becomes governor in 2027.
Responding to whether he would adopt ideas from other county leaders, Babu said Kang’ata’s achievements in Murang’a are commendable, but Nairobi’s status as the capital city means its issues differ significantly.
“I see Irungu Kang’ata has really done a great job in Murang’a, and there is clear evidence of that,” Babu stated. “However, the dynamics and challenges facing Nairobians are completely different from those in Murang’a.”
He added that while he is open to borrowing effective strategies from other counties where suitable, he already has a comprehensive plan tailored to Nairobi’s needs.
“Whatever can be borrowed will be borrowed, but I already have my plan. So I don't need to borrow anything from anybody,” Babu remarked.

Babu’s comments came shortly after Kang’ata was ranked the best-performing governor in the latest Infotrak Governor Performance Index, scoring 80 percent. Kang’ata led ahead of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
