Maendeleo Chap Chap, led by Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, has resolved to remain active and competitive in the upcoming 2027 General Election. At its National Governing Council meeting on August 12, 2026, the party rejected calls to dissolve, instead committing to field candidates for all elective positions except the presidency.
The party plans to present candidates for governor, senator, woman representative, Member of Parliament, and Member of County Assembly seats nationwide. However, Maendeleo Chap Chap will endorse President William Ruto’s bid for re-election rather than fielding its own presidential candidate.
Support for William Ruto
Mutua’s decision to back President Ruto aligns Maendeleo Chap Chap with the Kenya Kwanza administration amid a competitive electoral landscape. This move follows reports that Mutua faced pressure, including a 10-day ultimatum, to dissolve the party, which he has firmly resisted.
New Slogan and Mobilization
The party has also retired its long-standing slogan "Inawezekana" in favor of a new rallying cry: "Mbele Iko Sawa". Mutua is set to launch a nationwide tour to engage grassroots supporters and strengthen party structures ahead of the polls.
In addition, Maendeleo Chap Chap is initiating a membership drive to expand its base. Former members who left for other political groups have been invited to rejoin, with a deadline set for September 15, 2026, to facilitate their reintegration.

Mutua emphasized that the party is ready for a strong future, stating, "Maendeleo Chap Chap is ready for the next chapter, stronger, broader, and focused on the future. Mbele iko sawa." The resolutions indicate the party’s intent to contest the elections independently while maintaining strategic alliances at the presidential level.
